Shining a bright spotlight on one such CTO, Paul Dingwitz is one of three executive leaders of ZEAL Network SE, in its pursuit of offering world famous lottery-based products and games across various international markets.
From the Scratch
Paul Dingwitz grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia, surrounded by diverse opportunities. In his youth, Paul’s interests gravitated towards sports and beach activities rather than technology. His knack for fixing things around the house and working on cars with family hinted at his mechanical aptitude.
After graduating from high school, Paul enlisted in the US Army during the era when military computer systems were becoming essential. Spending long hours troubleshooting and repairing systems, he honed his technical skills through hands-on experience before formal training courses solidified his expertise.

Following his military service, Paul embarked on a career spanning various industries, from large enterprises to startups, and mid-sized companies. His journey led him to specialize in e-commerce, dedicating over 20 years to this sector, which eventually led him towards taking over as the CTO of ZEAL.
As the CTO
Since Paul took over as the CTO a lot has changed for ZEAL, and in his role, he not only focuses on the continuous development of the technical makeup at ZEAL, but also bears responsibility helping to develop the corporate culture and customer experience through his additional responsibility for other specialist areas such as People & Culture and Customer Operations. His strategic approach involves anticipating future business requirements and growth plans, enabling the creation of aligned technological strategies that enhance scalability and drive business value.

Being furthermore the executive sponsor for the People & Culture department at ZEAL, together with his team, Paul has also embraced the task of creating and developing a great working atmosphere at ZEAL. Viewing People & Culture as a passionate emphasis area second only to Technology in his career, he is committed to creating a supportive workplace culture that boosts employee engagement and leads to successful business outcomes.

In addition, Paul is the executive sponsor for the Customer Operations department, where, together with the team, he continuously works on improving customer satisfaction. Paul also oversees Operational Excellence initiatives, which are centered on enhancing internal procedures and fostering cross-functional cooperation to guarantee effective operations across the whole organization.
Overcoming Challenges and Building a Future-Ready Platform
In his more than eight years at ZEAL, Paul Dingwitz has seen that teams might undergo difficulties. When starting at ZEAL, he and his teams had to deal with antiquated and unduly complicated systems, procedures, and obsolete hardware and instruments that didn’t serve their purpose. Their platform at the time was more of a burden than a benefit, taking up more than 50–60% of their time due to platform and technical problems.

Having overcome these challenges, a business purchase presented a new set of difficulties that included several operational and technological complications. In order to resolve issues, Paul and his teams were forced to put the majority of their ambitious business plans on hold and combine two active platforms into a single, shared platform. This allowed both companies to continue operating without causing any problems for their clientele. It took 18 to 24 months to do this intricate operation with many moving components.

After it, the emphasis switched to advancing substantial business size and developing technical capabilities. Their objective was to develop platform capabilities that could swiftly launch new products while utilizing the power and capabilities of common modules of a lottery e-commerce platform, given their portfolio of gaming and lottery-related businesses and goods. In order to allow organizations and products to communicate as allowed, this required overcoming corporate segmentation, compliance, and regulatory limits while maintaining technical flexibility.

Their platform has previously supported a typical B2C business strategy. These days, ZEAL uses the same platform to drive simultaneous B2C, B2B2C, and D2C across a range of goods and organizations. Because each has distinct and common needs, platform design, capabilities, scalability, and security features become more difficult to meet.
In the coming years, Paul Dingwitz and his team are laser-focused on scaling and enhancing their common platform’s capabilities to empower their businesses to learn, grow, and succeed with confidence and expected outcomes.
On a Personal Note
Many people focus on politics or media headlines, but Paul Dingwitz has always preferred to direct his attention to topics or causes where he can have a direct impact. Over the past ten years, he has repeatedly started and paused an idea to create a central aggregated service that tracks all requests for volunteers at shelters, food banks, and other community service needs within a geographical region. This service aims to make it easy for everyday citizens to find consolidated opportunities to volunteer and contribute positively to society.

Paul initiated this idea while living in the US and has paused it several times due to his relocations around Europe. He hopes to resume progress on this project in the coming years. He believes that, despite our busy lives, we need to find ways to give back to society or the local community effortlessly. His vision is to make volunteering as easy as ordering food online, with a user-friendly interface and a strong value proposition, allowing people to invest their time in what truly matters.
