Their impactful contributions are evident in diverse industries, including those traditionally dominated by male leadership. Prometim, a company at the forefront of Maintenance & Asset Integrity, Construction and EPC Projects, Facilities Maintenance, and Procurement, is no exception to this trend. One such exemplary leader is Paula Dantas, the Managing Partner at Prometim, who brings a wealth of expertise and leadership to the organization.
As the Managing Partner, Paula Dantas collaborates with the executive committee to establish strategic goals, oversees daily operations, and manages critical aspects such as financial, legal, and human resources issues. Her role extends beyond the traditional boundaries, encompassing performance evaluation, quality standards compliance, driving business growth, and exploring new opportunities.
Paula also serves as a key representative of the company, cultivating meaningful relationships with clients and partners. Her adept conflict resolution skills and risk mitigation strategies contribute significantly to Prometim’s success. In essence, Paula Dantas epitomizes the impactful role women leaders are playing in steering companies towards sustained growth and innovation in the ever-evolving business landscape.
Navigating the Intersection of Passion and Profession
Paula Dantas discovered her passion for chemistry and physics during her school years, ultimately leading her to choose a career in Chemical Engineering at the age of 14. After completing her engineering studies, she embarked on a professional journey that included roles at a refinery (Galp Energy) as Process Engineer and later as a Crude Oil Trader. Recognizing the need to enhance her business acumen, Paula pursued a graduate program in Business Management, simultaneously balancing her daytime responsibilities at the refinery with evening university classes.
This pivotal decision significantly influenced Paula’s professional development, propelling her beyond the confines of pure technical roles into the dynamic realm of Business Management. Transitioning from GALP to SGS, a Swiss multinational company, Paula excelled as a Business Unit Manager, eventually charting her course by establishing her own business.
Despite the demanding nature of her professional life, Paula maintains a commitment to her diverse hobbies, including traveling, reading, music, dancing, and immersing herself in nature. While her weekdays are devoted to professional endeavors, Paula ensures she reserves her weekends for these cherished pursuits. Recognizing the importance of a balanced life, Paula implements various strategies, including clearly defining her goals, prioritizing tasks based on importance and deadlines, effective time management, regular breaks for mental refreshment, and a focus on self-care, including a preference for a meat-free diet. For Paula, the alignment of professional responsibilities with personal passions is integral to her overall well-being and satisfaction.
Leading through Challenges
Throughout her entire professional journey, Paula Dantas has dedicated herself to the Oil & Gas Industry. Beginning as a refinery worker, she progressed to the trading of Oil & Gas products and subsequently ventured into the logistics and inspection facets of the trading business. Her entrepreneurial spirit came to the forefront when she founded her own company, specializing in metrology within the Oil & Gas sector—a strategic move into a niche market with minimal competition at that time.
Recognizing an untapped opportunity, Paula took on the challenge of launching Prometim in the Oil & Gas maintenance sector three years later. Although a formidable undertaking, it has proven to be a resounding success under her leadership.
As the managing partner Paula actively confronts various challenges in her role, including managing the firm’s finances in a competitive market. Also taking part in recruiting and retaining top talent while fostering a positive organizational culture, Paula actively guides the company towards adapting to technological and global changes in the legal industry, while navigating the frequent legislative changes in the African countries where Prometim operates, and effectively managing stress and workload.
Prometim: A Visionary Approach to Success and Mission Excellence
Established in Angola in 2015 with a modest team of two, Prometim, under the leadership of Paula, has experienced remarkable growth, expanding to a workforce of 300 in Angola by 2023. Additionally, the company has successfully established a presence in Congo (Brazzaville) with 65 employees and an international arm based in Dubai. This Dubai office plays a pivotal role, overseeing international procurement to support the group’s activities. As of 2023, Prometim boasts an impressive annual turnover of approximately 35 million USD, a testament to its rapid ascent in the industry.
Driven by a commitment to excellence, Prometim envisions its success as contingent upon a motivated team thriving in a healthy work environment. Within this framework, every employee at Prometim is encouraged to feel valued for their contributions and is provided ample opportunities for the comprehensive development of their professional and personal skills.
In pursuit of its mission, Prometim seeks to make a lasting impact in the industry, earning the trust of partners and shareholders. The company aims to enhance customers’ competitiveness by ensuring high availability of production equipment while maintaining low maintenance costs, thus contributing to sustained industry leadership.
Paving the Way for Relentless Growth
Paula and her team at Prometim navigated numerous challenges, competing in a market dominated by large multinational companies with years of operational history. Despite these hurdles, the company achieved a significant milestone by securing contracts and collaborating directly with major players in the Oil & Gas industry, including TOTAL, BP, ENI, and others.
Financial constraints posed a formidable challenge, with limited support from Angolan/Congolese banks due to prohibitive interest rates. Undeterred, Paula steered the company’s growth using internal resources, reinvesting all profits to fuel business expansion.
Overcoming skepticism from clients accustomed to established suppliers was another feat, with the acquisition of the first contract from TOTAL marking a pivotal moment for Prometim. This success reshaped perceptions within the industry, opening doors to more opportunities from other major players.
Looking ahead, Prometim, guided by Paula’s strategic vision, aims to extend its footprint to other African countries, including Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, and Uganda. The company also harbors plans for substantial growth within Angola, recognizing the vast market and abundant expansion possibilities currently available.
Values, Team Dynamics, and Continuous Improvement
Paula Dantas emphasizes the significance of continuous communication and embodiment of values as an ongoing and deliberate process rather than a one-time occurrence. Under her leadership, there is a substantial investment in business coaching and the development of soft skills for employees and managers, aimed at fostering a deep understanding of the company’s values. To ensure clarity, the mission, vision, and values statements have been streamlined for simplicity and easy comprehension.

Performance assessments have undergone improvements, now incorporating quantitative and qualitative criteria that align with the company’s culture and values objectives. The introduction of 360-degree assessment dynamics for soft skills and psychological safety assessments for workers demonstrates a commitment to holistic employee development, with action plans in place for continual enhancement.
In September 2023, under Paula’s guidance, the Prometim education academy was launched to instill a culture of continuous improvement, recognizing its essential role in the company’s success and sustainability. The academy prioritizes the sharing of internal knowledge to augment technical and behavioral skills, ultimately boosting overall performance and team productivity.
