Jenny Rosario
Women have long been the chief financial officers of their homes. They have been the domestic engineers. They have been home economists. However, this shift into gender-neutral leadership in the corporate sector has come fairly recently, but with a big bang. Now women are not just effective leaders, but they also function as empathetic colleagues who guide both the manforce and the organization towards success through their ingenious ideas and ways of turning things around. Emphasizing on one such woman leader who through her innate capability of communication, aligning goals and her active involvement in training and development, Jenny Rosario the Chief Operating Officer at Darcorp Management leads towards change, one step at a time.
From the Scratch
Jenny Rosario grew up in a small town in West Texas called Post, which was scarcely populated with less than 4000 inhabitants. She always enjoyed school and the regular school curriculum and teaching didn’t quite quench her thirst for quality learning and growth. But when she entered her fifth grade, Jenny fondly remembers her teacher, who personally for her was a turning point, as the teacher instilled in her a strong sense of achieving something great in her life, which she carried forward with confidence. For this she shares – “Very early I knew I wanted to do big things in a small world and the only way to get there was to give everything I had and know anything is possible. It all started with a small seed planted in a 10-year-old mind. The world was waiting for me to make a difference”.
Excelling in school, particularly in math and science, Jenny identified early on that one of these subjects would play a crucial role in her future. Inspired by her grandmother, who handled bookkeeping for her grandfather’s electrician business, Jenny aspired to follow in her footsteps but on a much larger scale, envisioning herself in a city with tall buildings and offices, as her small town could not contain her big dreams.
When Jenny was still in high school, she started taking accounting classes. After graduating, she moved to the city and continued her studies in this area. Despite having begun her professional life in corporate America as an accountant, she soon realized that her real skill was striking a balance between the operational and financial viewpoints.
Journey towards Darcorp Management
Embarking on the journey in the multifamily industry in 2013, Jenny leveraged her family’s management company to gain practical experience. Already a professional in the accounting domain, Jenny sought to master the operational aspects, where she took part in the leasing and learning of all on-site positions. “After the asset sold, my growth was unstoppable. This is where I was introduced to one of the best mentors I have been blessed with. I was now able to assist in building an amazing new management company”, Jenny Rosario exclaimed.
This experience, she notes, was invaluable, providing lessons beyond what any classroom could offer. “I was equipped with the tools and resources needed to elevate the company to new heights,” Jenny adds.
Through roles such as Software Support, Implementations Manager, Operations Manager, and Director of Implementation and Software Support, Jenny gained a well-rounded understanding of property management. Her expertise in balancing financial and operational aspects led her to Darcorp Management. After a year of assisting a smaller company, she seized the opportunity at Darcorp, starting in operations and quickly rising to her current leadership role.
As the Chief Operating Officer
Leading Darcorp Management as the Chief Operating Officer, Jenny heads the operations of the company’s several assets. Be it property management, financial management, tenant relations, staff management, compliance, and asset enhancement, Jenny also ensures that multifamily properties are efficiently managed, financially sound, and provide a positive living experience for tenants.
Recognizing the service-oriented nature of the industry, she emphasizes the importance of excellent customer service to handle tenant complaints, conflicts, and turnover. Staff management is another critical area for Jenny, starting with recruitment and extending to training and managing staff, particularly for larger assets or multiple locations.
In the Days to Come
Jenny shared her excitement about Darcorp’s expansion into other states and the launch of a fee-managed division. “We’re thrilled about this new initiative. Our experience with fee-managed assets positions us well for this challenge,” she says.
On a Personal Note
Outside of work, Jenny has been married for over 20 years and enjoys traveling with her husband. An avid reader, she often revisits books that have profoundly impacted her. Her love for sports, particularly Longhorn football, continues, though she remains a dedicated Cowboys fan.
Jenny believes in maintaining a balance between professional and personal life. She emphasizes the importance of setting boundaries and choosing the right company or partner for professional growth. Meditation is a regular practice for her, helping to keep her work and home life distinct and balanced.
Jenny Rosario’s journey from a small town to a significant leadership role in the corporate world highlights her remarkable growth and the evolving landscape of women in leadership. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance, vision, and the impact of empathetic leadership.
